Greece is a country with a rich history and a diverse culture, making it a popular destination for travelers from around the world. From the ancient ruins of Athens to the stunning beaches of the Greek islands, there is so much to see and do in this beautiful country.

One of the best ways to experience all that Greece has to offer is by renting a car and hitting the open road. With your own transportation, you’ll have the freedom to explore the country at your own pace and discover some of the less well-known parts of Greece.

If you’re planning a trip to Greece, there are a few must-see destinations that you won’t want to miss. Athens, the capital of Greece, is home to many ancient ruins, including the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The city also has a vibrant nightlife, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and clubs to choose from.

The Greek islands are another must-see destination in Greece. Whether you want to relax on the sandy beaches of Mykonos or experience the history and culture of Rhodes, there is an island to suit every taste.

Greece is also home to many stunning natural areas, including the Meteora monasteries and the Samaria Gorge. These areas offer opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and nature photography.

Overall, Greece is a country that has something for everyone. With its rich history, stunning natural beauty, and vibrant culture, it is a must-see destination for anyone who loves to travel. So, if you’re planning a trip to Greece, be sure to rent a car and explore all that this amazing country has to offer.

In the new models, using the mobile phone is a breeze. Simply connect it via Bluetooth to the infotainment system and you’re in and out of trouble. Phone calls, GPS, and even the on/off switch of a household electrical appliance (if you’re in a Mercedes) are all set using the touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. But what happens if our car can’t support the above connectivity service, either because of its age or equipment version? The “old-fashioned“, but quite handy solution in such cases is the use of a mobile phone base. Use not just anywhere, because both the law (which we will analyze below) and simple logic “oblige” us to place it in a practical place that on the one hand serves us, and on the other hand does not in the least obstruct our external visibility.

Having learned the generalities, let’s go on to specify the information about the five safest and most convenient places to place the base of a mobile phone.

1) On the windshield
The windshield is probably the most widespread and frequently used mounting option for a cell phone cradle. With special glue or by using a suction cup, the base goes in at about eye level where we have good visibility of the road and easy use of the mobile phone as well.

2) On the dashboard
Leaving the windshield, an equally favorite option is the dashboard of the car. It’s more accessible due to the distance for the driver, minimally limits road visibility and is safer than an object on the windshield in the event of a car accident. Exposure to the hot sun is a major nuisance, just as it is with the base stuck on the windshield.

3) Air conditioning system vents
For those who don’t want to use the handsfree headphones as much but put the speakerphone on, the air conditioning system vents are a better solution. If they are even the traditional rectangular shaped ones the fixing is easier and also our visibility is not obstructed in the least. Caution: do not leave the mobile exposed to the air conditioning with hot air because it risks overheating and “sticking”.

4) Cup holders in the centre console
As long as your car has large (cup) holders in the centre console, it is easier to place a mobile phone holder there. By putting out his hand the driver has direct access although he more often “takes his eyes off the road”. We are, of course, careful not to be in a position that obstructs the gear lever. We do not recommend this position.

5) In the centre mirror
Placing the device in the center mirror makes it easier in that we are essentially looking at the road (behind us) and the screen/GPS at the same time. It can be easily mounted, it offers great viewing angles, we just have to be careful how well it is secured.

What Greek legislation says
In conclusion, let’s look at what the Highway Code says about both the use of a mobile phone and the additional accessories one mounts on a car. First of all, in Article 81 of the Code, entitled “Mechanisms, accessories and devices of vehicles”, reference is made to the windscreen, stressing that “It is prohibited to place or suspend in front or behind the windscreen, as well as to attach to it objects that restrict the driver’s visibility”. Regarding the permitted use of mobile phones, the MCC in Article 13 “Drivers” points out that “The use of a mobile phone while driving is only permitted when it is placed in a special position for hands-free use or when used with a wireless headset”.

Winter Destinations You’ll Love In Greece

Snow-covered mountain peaks and endless kilometres of skiing trails. Natural thermal waterfalls and bucolic escapes in lakes. Traditional “northern” recipes and warm hospitality. Northern Greece has many faces, worth getting to know even in the cold winter.

We discover these faces, for all you northern Greeks who, every time we write about Mountainous Arcadia and Corinthia or every time we do a feature on the villages of Parnassos or Pelion, you remind us that they fall… slightly far away. The following destinations are as close as they are magical. Put your scarves and your warmest coats in your suitcase and let’s go.

Kaimaktsalan

Our first thought for a winter getaway in Northern Greece, the snowy hamlets of Kaimaktsalan promise scenic walks among century-old plane, pine and beech trees as well as slaloms at the country’s “highest” ski resort.

The highlights. The village of Panagitsa is worth a visit with its stunning views of the lush green Pella and Lake Vegoritida. Of course, the “main course” of your getaway is at the ski resort that reaches an altitude of 2,680 meters, with endless kilometers of easy to very demanding ski trails and a beautiful little church at the top.

Kerkini
The magic of the most atmospheric lake of Northern Greece becomes eerie, “bathed” in winter fog, ideal for those seeking an alternative destination, with a special “bucolic” aroma, traditional flavors and walks with… wild buffalo.

The highlights: Wild Buffalo in every version, as well as delicious steaks and buffalo sausages.

Nymfaio
It is, according to UNESCO, one of the ten most beautiful villages in Europe: The preserved settlement of Nymphaeum is located at 1,350 metres amidst the lush vegetation of Mount Vitsi and is ideal for active travellers, animal lovers and volunteer enthusiasts, or simply for lovers of beauty.

The highlights: first stop, the beautiful cobbled streets of the village with the stately houses and the picturesque corners overlooking the beech forests that surround the settlement. Second stop, in the nature around the village, such as the Wildlife Park that starts from the entrance of the settlement, on the slopes where you can go horseback riding (information can be found in the square of Nymphaeum) or in the nearby lakes Zazari and Chimaditida, on the shores of which undiscovered fishing villages “nestle”. Last and best stop, the Arcturus Sanctuary, whose Environmental Centre is home to bears and wolves and has a Brown Bear Information Centre. Entrance costs €6, and there is the option of a two-day volunteer work experience at the Centre, which covers accommodation costs in a nearby village.

Prespes
Dense forests and roads that pass through ghost villages lead to the banks and picturesque fishing villages. The melancholic landscapes, snowy background and watery vastness welcome you. It is located in front of the wild beauty of Prespa.

The highlights. There, you’ll buy local products such as the famous Prespa beans, handmade woven baskets and delicious spoon sweets. Other interesting riverside settlements are Agios Germanos, Lemos and Karyes. Finally, the snow will take you to the nearby Vigla-Pisoderi ski resort to practice the king of winter sports.

Pozzar Baths
Somewhere in Pella, there is a location that, despite the bitter cold of winter… steams defiantly and invites us for an unprecedented experience of nature “dives” and trails. Pozar baths have begun to exploit their natural wealth and are identified with the ultimate relaxation getaways in Macedonia, without being exclusively addressed to the… old age.

The highlights. After you have experienced the experience of experiencing the unique atmosphere of the spa. You will have the opportunity to visit the evocative caves of the area, in the first Speleological Park of Greece near the village of Ano Loutraki or to follow the hiking and climbing trails that start from Loutra or Galanas Nera and move along Thermopotamos or through the gorge.

A Holiday to Halkidiki in Northern Greece Could Be a Pleasant Surprise

There are many popular destinations worth visiting in Northern Greece. But Halkidiki is the place that is receiving an increasing number of tourists. Halkidiki is on the Aegean Sea coast and the little area is full of seaside resorts. The tourist destination appears as three legs if looked at from above (some will say 3 fingered claw) and these are jutting out into the sea. One has to take a flight to the Thessaloniki airport to reach the peninsula and rent a car from City Car Rental. There are many car options in Thessaloniki that you can rent, but the Premium cars are the most exciting ones.

Typical European Style Villas

The Halkidiki villas for rent would mostly be large ones with 4-5 bedrooms and many baths. You can take your whole family or a large group of friends and stay comfortably. You can find villas which are fully furnished and the kitchen also equipped with everything you need to cook your own food during your stay. Since you have chosen a seaside resort for this holiday, pick one of the properties in Halkidiki that is right on the seafront. The amenities provided are at par with similar accommodation you get anywhere in Europe. They provide linen and a television with the DVD player for entertainment and so on. Check the terms of renting out these properties in Halkidiki online and make the booking. Technology allows you to get a fair view of the place on Google Maps. So there will be very little to surprise you when you arrive.

Things to Do at Halkidiki

Depending on your particular interest you can spend your vacation in Halkidiki. Once you have picked up and settled down in one of the Halkidiki villas for rent, the calm waters of the Aegean Sea itself will keep you captivated. The view from the villa’s balcony will be another way to relax and enjoy the time. But if you wish to explore your way around, there are historic sightseeing spots on the islands. The Cave of Petralonais is one such attraction that tourists never miss.

If you get to see some of the churches in the islands, take the time and learn their history. Some have interesting stories attached to them like being turned into mosques and then reclaimed by the Christian faith later.

No Dearth of Eating Joints

You may never be far from a restaurant in Halkidiki. Like any tourist destination, the resorts have their food outlets and you can find a variety of cuisines there. The local preparations and locally made wine are quite a craze among the tourists. Try them at least once to gather the experience.

Generally a good place to vacation, Halkidiki should be your next holiday destination if you wish to have that laid back and relaxed time; no timings to keep and no rushing through the traffic.

If you plan to spend an extended vacation here and ride all along Halkidiki you can look for City Car Rental and you won’t be disappointed.

HALKIDIKI

Economy Cars

Fiat Panda

When you are on a certain budget and trying to save you will have to opt for economy cars as they are normally the lowest in price. Economy cars may not be the best option for long rides and whether you are more than three people as these cars are generally very small in size, engine and have limited features. Fiat Panda (Category B) is a good option for the best type of car to rent.

Compact Cars

Seat Ibiza

If you have room for a slightly larger budget on your vehicle, going for a compact rather than an economy would be a good decision. These vehicles are not much bigger in size but are considered a higher class category for the type of cars offered. The price would be worth paying for a little more comfort while driving. Seat Ibiza (Category C) is a good option for the best type of car to rent.

Full Size Cars

Fiat Tipo

How about a Fiat Tipo or a Skoda Octavia? These vehicles and others fall under the full-size cars for their good reputation. Being spacious cars and considered a smooth drive, you cannot go wrong here. Another pro to this category is the fact that its fuel consumption remains within the acceptable range.

SUVs

Seat Arona

Great for a weekend road trip with family, the SUV category may just be your best call. SUVs are subdivided into categories as per their size, from mid-sized, standard to full size. Depending on the number of people traveling and the space needed, you can decide on which one to opt for. Seat Arona (Category F) is a good option for the best type of car to rent.

Now that you have all categories explained, the best type of car to rent remains very dependent on the type of trip your taking, your budget, and the number of passengers coming along. At City Car Rental you will find the best rates for all the above categories and more.

Greece plans to lift quarantine restrictions from next week for travelers from the European Union and five other countries who have been vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

Source: euro2day.gr

Last month, the country lifted a one-week quarantine rule for Israeli travellers who have been inoculated and test negative.

Greece, which emerged from a decade-long financial crisis before the pandemic last year, has said it will open its tourism sector, a key growth driver for its economy, from the middle of May.

“We will gradually lift the restrictions at the beginning of next week ahead of the opening on May 14,” a senior tourism ministry official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The official said citizens from the European Union, the United States, Britain, Serbia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates will be allowed to travel to Greece via the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu, and two border crossings.

Passengers from those countries will not be quarantined, as long as they prove that they have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or show a negative PCR test carried out 72 hours prior to their arrival, the official said, adding the tourists would be subject to domestic lockdown restrictions.

This was the new slogan introduced by Greece’s tourism minister – Harry Theoharis – at the big travel trade virtual conference, ITB, yesterday.

The underlying reason for the slogan?

According to Theoharis all you want is Greece and it will put a smile back on your face again.

With that announcement, he said that Greece was planning to open for tourism on May 14th. However this date might be adjusted and isn’t set in stone so beware of booking too close to that date. You might still have to move your holiday back if problems occur in the planning or if there is an upsurge in cases. A summer booking is looking more and more to be a safe bet.

Having said that, Greece has been one of the success stories. It has managed to contain cases and hospitalisations are much lower than in some European countries with similar populations.

When Greece opens for travel again, what restrictions on incoming visitors will there be?

The minister said that tourists will be welcome if they can show that they have been vaccinated, can demonstrate (a doctor’s note?) that they carryanntibodies (a doctor’s note?) or that they have tested negative.

Visitors will still be subject to random testing at all entry points to the country but this will rapid tests rather than PCR ones which take longer to process so you shouldn’t be detained too long at your point of entry.
