Kastoria is the picturesque city of Macedonia, with the particular topography and rich cultural heritage. It is built on a peninsula protruding into the lake Orestiada and is spread around the amphitheater. It is a modern city, keeps the original character of the environment and history, old neighborhoods, narrow streets, stately old mansions, many museums and Byzantine churches. In the picturesque old Doltso are magnificent mansions of Kastoria 17th-18th century that testify the economic and cultural development of the city furriers. The Folklore Museum of the City includes photo and fur workshop space representation. The city has many museums including the Costumes Museum, with costumes and jewelry of the popular culture of the place and the Byzantine museum collections with pictures, sculptures, mosaics, wood carvings and sacred objects from the 12th to the 17th century.
The city tour is easy by car, by bike or on foot, and you will discover something different and interesting at every turn to admire to the city that embraced the lake from a different angle.
Aliakmonas River and the mountains of Grammos and Vitsi, near the city are destinations of incomparable beauty and quite unexplored, with extensive meadows, alpine forests and pristine rivers. On the mountain, there is a remarkable ski resort with modern facilities.
